A New Day , A New Hope and a New Blog!

Hope House , Dover , New Jersey
As you may know Hope House is celebrating our 40th year of service to the poor and marginalized in Morris County this year. Unfortunately the need for our services and assistance has grown immensely since that first day we opened our doors. However, I am grateful to say that as the need has grown so has our ability to help sand provide services.

In 2010 Hope House  provided food to 4,267 children and 6,576 adults.
We also served about 3,000 individuals in the areas of:
* Family and Youth Counseling
* Substance Abuse Counseling
* HIV/AIDS Services
* Senior Services
* Food Pantry

We would not have been able to respond to the needs of our friends and neighbors if we didn't have such a dedicated  professional staff,  loyal hard working volunteers , a supportive active Board of Trustees , the guiding leadership of Catholic Charities and the generosity and support of so many groups such as: The United Way ; Horizon Blue Cross ; TD Bank ; Hyde Watson Foundation ; Dircks Foundation ; and so many many more parishes, organizations and individuals.

As we enter into a new era we believe that with so many people with so many needs it is important to open up every channel possible for communication. We have therefore recently established  out reach and interactive communications so can can listen to our neighbors , share ideas, explore better and new ways to respond to needs and issues and to keep all the Hope House family and interested parties informed.

We expect that this blog to be informative and interactive. Be assured that this channel or any of our new communication tools will never ever replace the face to face personal contact that we believe is essential in providing real support and assistance to those in need. This tool can be a forum for information delivery and sharing as well sharing ideas and problem solve.

You will know that we have also launched a new Face Book page "Hope House New Jersey" and a twitter account "HopeHouseNewJersey." These communication channels will be updated and monitored daily. You can also watch for our videos being posted here and on you tube.

For those who do not have access to the technology we will still have hard copy newsletter and fliers produced and of course if one cannot call us on the phone you can come by and visit.

Please let us know what you think...and we gratefully  look forward always.

God Bless you in all ways!

40th Anniversary Dinner

Hope House of  Catholic Charities  in the Diocese of Paterson held a dinner to celebrate
forty years of service in Morris County on March 23 at the Hanover Marriott. There were 200 dignitaries and guests who attended the celebration.

This year the dinner honored two very special Hope House supporters,Mr.  Mark Andreano and  Mr. Tom Vasquez . On behalf of the Board of Trustees , the staff and clients of Hope House Ms. Diane Silbernagel , Executive Director of Hope House and Mr. Joseph Duffy,President of Catholic Charities , Diocese of Paterson spoke about the selfless service these two men have provided  to Hope House  over the years. As Ms. Silbernagel said “ Mark Andreano is always there when we need help. He is only a phone call away.” He has also been one of the primary speakers the Hope House Hour of Hope presentations ( monthly open house presentations and tours of Hope House.) Also, Mr. Duffy paid particular attention to how Mr. Vasquez  , who started his career as a Police officer in Boonton and who now owns his own business, started as a volunteer at Hope House and eventually became a member of the Hope House Board of Trustees. Both men were honored with proclamations from local municipalities . State Senator AnthonyBucco and Assemblyman Tony Bucco presented both men with honorary proclamations from the New Jersey legislature.

Mark and Tom were also honored with a special Papal Blessing from Pope Benedict XVI..

Mr. Andreano was very humbled and gracious in his remarks that “in the end if one wishes to find happiness you will have it forever in serving others .” A touching moment that capped off the evening was when Mr. Vasquez invited the staff and volunteers of Hope House to come up in front by the podium and asked the dinner guests to thank them for their hard work as “You raise me up” by Josh Groban played over the ballroom sound system. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house as the guests stood in with applause and  gratitude.

Early in the evening as guests gathered  they  were greeted by the pleasant and excellent  musical sounds of Ferastrome String Quartet of Randolph High School. (The students in the group are Larry Qin, violinist, Jessica Lu, violinist, Aoma Caldwell, cellist and Rachel Snyder, violist.)
